Expectations

Expectations; bottomless lists of meaningless criteria,

Noses reaching for the stars, like they’re superior,

Looking down at us, picking, pointing, endless games,

With scorn they say we’re free, tied down with heavy chains,

Suit and a tie and a suitcase full of lies,

Awakening the peepers- all hope dies,

Griffon vultures circling round our heads,

Feeding on the flesh are yellow Aedes,

There must be structure; keep your back straight girl,

Be smart and smile and nod, each hair in a perfect curl,

Manners and posture and the family tree,

Your plans to fortune is all that they see,

The corrupt adverse nefarious world,

You close, within thine own self curled.
